Driver with drugs fails to elude officers

A 29-year-old Turlock man was arrested Sunday evening after he ran from police and hid after being pulled over in his car which contained drugs.

At 10 p.m. Ceres Police Officer Eric Gallegos heard saw a car being driven recklessly around the apartment complex at 1625 Richland Avenue. Officer Gallegos conducted a traffic stop on the grey Chrysler 300 as it traveled eastbound on Giddings Road from Paramount Avenue.  Driver Julio Mancillas, 29, of Turlock, pulled into a driveway in the 1500 block of Giddings Road and immediately ran to hide behind a parked vehicle.  Fearing an ambush, Officer Gallegos got out of his patrol car, drew his handgun and ordered Mancillas to show himself and surrender.  Mancillas continued to hide.

Backup units arrived and officers found Mancillas sitting on the ground, in front of a parked vehicle. He was taken into custody without incident.

Mancillas was on active probation and had a suspended driver’s license.  During a search, narcotic paraphernalia was located on him person. Inside the vehicle, officers located over five grams of suspected heroin, oxycodone pills and more drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Stanislaus County jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance, obstruction of an officer, probation violations and driving on a suspended license.
