A female passenger sustained facial injuries Thursday morning when she flew into the windshield of the car she was riding in as the driver crashed into two parked car while allegedly intoxicated.

The crash took place at 8:52 a.m. in front of Summit Charter Academy in the 1900 block of Hatch Road.

Police say that Sonia Ortega, 24, of Ceres, was driving eastbound on Hatch Road in a 1997 black Honda Civic. As Ortega approached traffic that was slowing down for a red light at Central Avenue, she applied the brakes and lost control. The Honda went right into the back of a blue 2014 Nissan Pathfinder that was parked at the curb. It was occupied Alaina Jennings Clay of Modesto.

The impact also caused the Nissan to collide into an unoccupied 2011 Toyota Camry parked in front of it.
Clay complained of pain in her legs but refused an ambulance.

Ortega's passenger, Kelly Hamlin, 45, of Modesto, sustained facial injuries when her face hit the windshield. Police say she was not seat belted. Hamlin was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Officers detected an odor of alcohol on Ortega's breath. During a field sobriety test, Ortega had difficulty maintaining her balance and could barely keep her eyes open, said Sgt. Jose Berber. She was arrested on charges of felony DUI, driving without a license and making an unsafe turning movement.
