DUI suspect leads police on chase
Gabriel Bejaran
Gabriel Bejaran

Gabriel Bejaran, 41, of Modesto, would have been better off pulling over and facing arrest for drunken driving early Saturday. But instead he decided to flee, was ultimately caught and earned two extra charges – that of evading a police officer and resisting arrest.

At 12:59 a.m., Officer Adam Hall observed a car speeding westbound on Service Road near Blaker Road so he decided to follow and pull over the driver.  Bejaran made a northbound turn onto Morgan Road as the officer came up behind and activated his emergency lights but continued traveling northbound at approximately 35 mph.

Bejaran accelerated into the Tasha Drive residential area at 40-50 before losing control in the 1300 block of Genevieve Way and hitting a parked car.

Bejaran got out of his vehicle and began walking away from Officer Hall. He was ordered to get on the ground by Officer Hall and Sgt. Travis Hudson, who had joined the pursuit. Bejaran refused to comply and began to flee, prompting Hudson to use his Taser on him.

Officer Hall took custody of Bejaran and smelled alcohol on him.  At the end of a DUI investigation, Officer Hall determined that Bejaran was under the influence of alcohol.  He was arrested on charges of DUI, evading a police officer and resisting arrest.
