A 62-year-old Ceres man who was illegally crossing Hatch Road on foot and creating a hazardous situation last week was arrested after he tried to discard suspected methamphetamine as he was being approached by the officer.

At 9:52 p.m. on Wednesday evening, March 16, Officer Frederico Ortiz spotted August Large, 62, of Ceres, jaywalking and approached Large in the parking lot of the former Kmart in the 1300 block of Hatch Road. When Large realized he was being stopped, he reached into his pockets and attempted to discard the substance. Officer Ortiz saw what he did and recovered the drug as he made the arrest. Also found on Large was suspected drug paraphernalia.

Large was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and attempting to destroy evidence.
