The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department arrested Joshua Rodriguez on Monday in Keyes for the August 6 murder of Juan Aranda, 23.

Aranda, 22, was found mortally shot in the 4700 block of Isabella Avenue in Keyes at approximately 11:35 p.m. The Sheriff’s Department later said that the shooting took place in the 5400 block of Cora Way. Detectives followed leads for weeks and identified Rodriguez as the suspect.

At approximately 4 p.m. Monday, detectives, SWAT team members, drone team and hostage negotiation team members descended upon a residence in the 5400 block of Roselena Way to serve a homicide arrest warrant.  Rodriguez was arrested without incident outside of his own home.

Detectives are still investigating the shooting and motive and interviewed Rodriguez after his arrest. He was booked into the Public Safety Center for homicide charges where he is held on a no-bail status.

The investigative findings will soon be turned over to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office for their review.

After the arrest Stanislaus County Sheriff Jeff Dirkse made a social media post that read: “I’m proud of the team! This afternoon homicide detectives received information that a suspect in a recent murder was at a home in Keyes. The SWAT team rallied up with the Hostage Negotiation Team and the drone team, developed and executed the plan to serve the warrant, and the suspect was safely and efficiently arrested. Great work!”

The Aug. 6 shooting was the second homicide in Keyes within 14 weeks. Evan Robinson, 16, had been shot near the taco truck at Martha Avenue and 7th Street in Keyes on May 2.
