Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the Friday morning shooting of a 43-year-old transient man at the Ninth Street Bridge but the victim has not been cooperative about what led to it.

The shooting was reported at 7:10 a.m. and deputies found the victim bleeding from the shoulder caused by a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder. The shooting took place underneath the south end of the bridge, said Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Luke Schwartz said it’s believed that the shooting may have involved drugs or alcohol.

He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he was treated.

Because the victim was uncooperative and believed to under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, the sheriff’s office does not have any suspect information.
