A 50-year-old Ceres mother was arrested Friday for allegedly cutting her 15-year-old son in the hand during a heated argument.

The incident was reported at 12:15 p.m. in the 3100 block of Rose Avenue.

Officer Tony Scopesi and other officers investigated and believe that Virginia Garcia armed herself with several knives during an argument with the child and threatened to kill him as she began slashing a knife at the victim. The boy received a laceration and fled the house to call 911. Garcia was located inside the house and arrested. She was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of attempted murder, inflicting injury on a child and child cruelty.

The boy’s wound was treated at a local hospital.
