Officers attempted to pull over the driver of a 1999 BMW on Wednesday afternoon, March 11, but the incident grew into a high-speed pursuit and crash resulting in the arrests of two men.

The incident began at 4:35 p.m. when Officers Matt Berlier and Freddie Ortiz were working as a two-man unit when they saw the car in violation of the vehicle code. When the patrol car's lights were activated, the driver of the vehicle, Sergio Huerta Jr., 20, accelerated to speeds of up to 100 mph. As Huerta attempted to pass a vehicle on the right shoulder of Carpenter Road., he lost control of the car and it rolled over. Huerta and passenger Angel Alvarez, 19, tried running from the car but were apprehended.
Huerta was treated at a local hospital for injuries and then booked for evading a police officer in a motor vehicle, hit and run and resisting arrest.

Alvarez was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for probation violation and resisting arrest.
