Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department detectives arrested a 54-year-old man in connection with Saturday’s fatal stabbing at a boarding house on Hatch Road near Crows Landing Road.

The dead man was identified as Richard Miranda, 52. He lived at the boarding house in the 200 block of Hatch Road along with the suspect, Ronald Leo Lopez, 54, of south Modesto.

Lopez is being held in the Stanislaus County Public Safety without bail on a charge of murder with malice aforethought.

Deputies were dispatched to Miranda’s residence at around 2 p.m. after a call came in about a fight involving weapons. When they arrived they found Miranda was suffering from serious stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at a Modesto hospital a short time later.

The suspect bore minor wounds during the attack, noted Sheriff’s Department Lt. Mike Parker.

Other residents of the boarding home were interviewed at the Sheriff’s Department headquarters.
