Suspect wanted for domestic violence tries to run from officers

 A 32-year-old Ceres man wanted on a domestic violence charge tried to elude officers after he was spotted on Sunday but was later captured.

Officer Eric Souza was on patrol at 12:26 p.m. when he saw Jimmie Dale Wheeler backing a vehicle out of his driveway in the 3400 block of Central Avenue. Officer Souza knew Wheeler was wanted for domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon charges from a prior incident in Modesto.

Officer Souza blocked the vehicle in the driveway but Wheeler ran into his backyard and jumped a fence into a field in the 2100 block of Pine Street. Wheeler ran to the alley in the 2100 block of the Harold Street where Officer Souza lost sight of him. 

Using resources from the Ceres Police Department and the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, a perimeter was established surrounding the last place Wheeler was seen. He was later located hiding in a trailer in the 2100 block of Hackett Road where he surrendered. 

Wheeler was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, trespassing.
