A 17-year-old Ceres boy was arrested Thursday and charged with homicide in connection with the deadly Jan. 21 shooting in the 2600 block of Magnolia Avenue.

The shooting occurred at 6:28 p.m. and left 26-year-old Alexis Perez dead. He was driving a white Honda Accord when he was shot and crashed into a parked vehicle. Officers removed Perez from the driver’s seat and attempted life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Ceres Police served two separate search warrants, one in the 2200 block of Venus Drive in Ceres and the other in the 400 block of Sundance Way in Modesto. The warrants led to the arrest of the teen suspect who police did not identify because of a state law protecting the identities of minors. He was booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on charges of murder, assault with a deadly weapon and possession of an assault weapon.

Police would not release any additional details since the homicide investigation is continuing. The public is urged to contact Detective Matthew Berlier at 538- 5616 if they have information about the shooting.
