Thursday evening shooting leaves one dead

A 26-year-old Ceres man was killed in a Thursday evening shooting in the 2600 block of Magnolia Street.

Ceres Police were dispatched at 6:28 p.m. to the area with the report that the driver of a white Honda Accord had been shot and crashed into a parked vehicle. Officers removed mortally wounded Alexis Perez from the driver’s seat and attempted life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. Perez was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Perez’s death was the second fatal shooting in Ceres within 10 days. On Jan. 11 a carload of three men was fired upon near Strawberry Fields Park, resulting in the death of Miguel Pena, 18, of Ceres. A second victim who is 19 is recovering.

Police did not comment as to a possible connection between the two shootings or what evidence they have collected.
