Two Ceres men were arrested and charged with beating and robbing a homeless man of his cell phone and skateboard on Nov. 11.

At approximately 3:04 a.m. a 20-year-old transient man was sleeping outside of the Church of Christ in the 1900 block of Mitchell Road when he was allegedly awakened by former acquaintances Mayson Meares, 22, and Miguel Rodriguez, 23, both of Ceres. The victim said that Meares had accused him of owing money but when he refused to hand over money, both punched him numerous times in the face. The victim then watched as Meares and Rodriguez took off with his cell phone and skateboard.

He called 911 from a pay phone. Officers found the suspect at Smyrna Park where they were arrested and charged with robbery.

The cell phone and skateboard were recovered, said Ceres Police Sgt. Jose Berber.
