Brenda Burgoin
Brenda Burgoin

A 54-year-old Modesto resident was arrested in the lobby of the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on Monday, May 4 after she told staff that she had a gun and tried to wrestle one away from a responding deputy.

Brenda Burgoin was contacted by the on-duty watch commander at the Sheriff’s Operations Center at 250 E. Hackett Road. While attempting to determine whether she had a firearm, Burgoin became agitated, highly confrontational and began to violently resist by striking the officer in the face and attempted to gain possession of his service weapon. A Good Samaritan in the lobby on separate business, was able to assist subduing Burgoin. She was booked on felony charges of resisting/deterring an officer, as well as attempting to take a peace officer’s firearm while actively resisting a lawful arrest.

The Sheriff’s Department employee sustained only minor injuries.
