Blaker Kinser Junior High School eighth-grader Sofia Tellez was honored by the Ceres Rotary Club as a “Student of the Month" on Friday.

School officials say it was an honor to recognize Sofia, a leader at school and beyond her school campus. Her peers consistently point to three qualities that make her special: she is hardworking, genuinely kind and determined.

Sofia’s leadership and commitment to school show through her on-campus involvement. As the ASB vice president and a “Shark Ambassador,” she serves as a welcoming representative and advocate for her fellow classmates. Beyond student government, her energy and dedication are exhibited through performances with both the Impact Dance Team and Folklorico, balancing rigorous extracurricular commitments while maintaining good grades and citizenship in the classroom.

Sofia said she looks up to her favorite teacher, Mrs. Troglione as she’s always willing to listen and offer support at school. Driven by a passion for social studies and an ambition to pursue a future career in politics, Sofiqa approaches her education and community involvement with a purpose.

Sofia brings that same passion to the local dancing community, volunteering three days a week at Footnotes Dance Studio in Ceres to teach choreography and mentor young dancers to help build up the next generation of performers.
