LOS BANOS – A 25-year-old Keyes man is being blamed in a deadly crash near Los Banos early Monday.

The crash took place at approximately 4:18 a.m. on northbound Highway 165 south of Sixth Street.

An initial investigation by the California Highway Patrol determined that Carlos Enrique Godoy Canizales, 25, of Keyes, was southbound in his 2019 Honda at an unknown speed when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 1995 Honda. The other driver was killed and pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not released pending notification of family.

Canizalez sustained major injuries and was transported by air ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.

The CHP said it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were involved and doesn’t know why Canizales allowed his car to drift.
