A body of a person was found in a fire that swept through a structure in the 5300 block of Avenue D in a rural area southwest of Ceres Tuesday evening.

Investigators from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department and the Fire Warden's office are looking into the cause of the fire and the death.

At around 11 p.m. Tuesday the Ceres and Westport fire departments responded to a structure fire in the rural neighborhood. When firefighters extinguished the fire they discovered a body inside the residence.

The Sheriff's Department provided no further details.
