Stanislaus County Library’s annual Summer Reading Challenge is underway, and with it, a series of performances designed to foster learning and exploration for local children and their families.
The first show, “Didgeridoo Down Under” was held on Monday at the Ceres Library.
This show combines didgeridoo rhythms, percussive beats, storytelling, and audience participation. The same show will be offered at the Keyes Library today at 1 p.m. (Wednesday, June 4). Participants will learn about Australian music, how didgeridoos are made and more.
Uncle Jer’s Traveling Bee Show will be offered at the Ceres Library at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 12 and allow families to learn about the fascinating society of bees and see live bees in a hive.
Cruzin’ Critters is a nonprofit animal education organization whereby “animal ambassadors” will educate audiences about the marvels of the animal kingdom in an interactive show. The show will come to the Hughson Library at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17.
In “George the Giant,” families can experience the thrill of the sideshow from one of the few sword swallowers in the world. George will put on a show at the:
• Keyes Library: Monday, July 7 at 1 p.m.
• Hughson Library: Wednesday, July 9 at 3 p.m.
• Ceres Library: Thursday, July 10 at 4 p.m.
“These events reflect our commitment to our roles as a cultural center and community hub,” said Jessica Geiss, the Children’s and Teen Services librarian. “In bringing these shows to our community, families will have opportunities to learn together and connect through experiences that spark curiosity as much as they entertain.”
The Stanislaus County Library’s Summer Performer series is sponsored by the Stanislaus Library Foundation. Some events require advance registration, and requirements vary by location. Event registration and additional program details may be found on the Library’s online calendar of events at www.stanlibrary.org.
