A Community Health & Wellness Resource Fair was held Saturday at the Ceres Community Center, 2701 Fourth Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Turlock resident and Modesto High School junior Guneet Bella, started the youth health equity initiative as a sophomore which she calls “The Remedy Project.” Her brochure states the goal is to “acknowledge and spread awareness about barriers that individuals around us face when accessing health-related resources.”

Organizations present include TriCPR, Central Valley PACE, Golden Valley Health Centers, Sierra Vista Child & Family Services, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Care 2 You, Walgreens and the Kyler Wilson Foundation.

Stopping by to laud the efforts of Bella were Ceres Mayor Javier Lopez and Councilwoman Rosalinda Vierra.

Despite advertising the event in the newspaper and on social media, there wasn’t much in the way of attendance.

“I think the main goal right now is to start setting up events and getting used to networking and getting more connections,” said Bella. “So I think that’s important. We’re just getting started and I don’t think it’s discouraging or anything like that.”

Bella, who aspires to go into the medical profession, has also has set up seminars with other students to address specific problems like mental health.
