Ceres High challenged Beyer and Grace Davis.

“We’re starting to see certain girls flourish,” Hawks’ head coach Tony Cordova said. “They’re a lot more confident compared to the preseason.”

Central Valley shut out Johansen 26-0 in Western Athletic Conference play on Sept. 21 in Modesto.

The Hawks had 362 yards of total offense.

Central Valley rushed for 277 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries.

Freshman quarterback Nelmarie Diaz gained 119 yards and scored two touchdowns on 12 carries. She completed 9 of 18 passes for 85 yards.

Ayleen Apreza added 87 yards and two touchdowns on six carries.

Alexa Palacios ran for 63 yards on four carries.

Daniela Barajas led Central Valley’s defense with seven flag pulls.

Apreza had four flag pulls, three interceptions and one pass deflection.

Alicia Torres had four flag pulls and one interception.

Central Valley dropped to 4-11 overall and 3-3 in the WAC after losing 26-6 at Lathrop on Sept. 23.

Apreza totaled 35 yards and one touchdown on six carries.

Diaz rushed for 60 yards on six carries.

Alexyia Garcia had three flag pulls and one sack.

Apreza had three flag pulls and one pass deflection.

Victoria Mendoza had two flag pulls and one sack.

Ceres High dropped to 4-10 overall and 2-4 in the WAC standings after losing 13-6 to Beyer on Sept. 23 in Ceres.

The Bulldogs mustered 128 yards of total offense against the Patriots.

Gabriella Cole’s lone carry resulted in a 35-yard touchdown.

Freshman quarterback Evelyn Sciosciole completed 10 of 20 passes for 66 yards.

Jackie Guillory caught three passes for 23 yards.

Samantha Alcarez had eight flag pulls and one sack.

Grace Davis defeated Ceres High 14-0 on Sept. 21 at Bulldog Stadium.

Jazlyn Cisneros led the Bulldogs’ defense with nine flag pulls and one sack.

Alcarez and Hailey Iniguez both had six flag pulls.

Sciosciole led Ceres High’s offense with 65 yards on five carries.

Central Valley’s girls tennis team returned to its winning ways.

Ceres High fell short while trying to secure its first league victory.

Central Valley extended its winning streak to three matches with a 6-3 victory at Lathrop on Sept. 28.

The second-place Hawks improved to 5-1 in the WAC standings.

The fourth-place Spartans dropped to 2-4 in conference play.

Central Valley won four of six singles and two of three doubles matches versus Lathrop.

Emily Carranza prevailed 6-2, 7-5 in No. 1 singles play.

Serath Birring prevailed 6-4, 6-0 in No. 2 singles play.

Lizette Tafolla prevailed 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in No. 5 singles play.

Lauren Salvatera prevailed 6-3, 6-1 in No. 6 singles play.

Evelyn Valenzuela and Constanza Jaime Dominguez prevailed 6-2, 6-3 in No. 2 doubles play.

Yaretzi Valdovinos and Chanelle Ramirez prevailed 6-1, 6-1 in No. 3 doubles play.

Ceres High lost 8-1 to visiting Grace Davis on Sept. 21.

Michelle Salas and Kiara Gutierrez Ayala prevented the shutout. They prevailed 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 in No. 2 doubles play.

Ceres High dropped to 0-6 in the WAC after losing 9-0 to Beyer at home on Sept. 23.

VOLLEYBALL

Central Valley’s girls volleyball team surpassed its victory total from a season ago this past week.

Ceres High remained winless versus WAC competition.

Central Valley moved to 5-11 overall and 2-4 in the WAC. The Hawks compiled a 4-19 record in 2025.

“I think how hard we work as a team and how we trust each other when playing on the court is a big factor in our success,” co-captain Reylenda Herrera said. “No matter how many errors we make or sets we lose, our team will have each other’s back, and I think that’s important.”

Central Valley prevailed 3-0 (25-6, 25-12, 25-17) while competing against the Johansen Vikings on Sept. 21 in Ceres.

Amirrah Cornielle led Central Valley with 15 assists, six aces, five digs and two kills

Sofia Garibay had eight digs, seven kills and two aces.

Deanika Perez had six digs and three aces.

Central Valley sustained a 3-0 loss (25-16, 25-14, 25-18) while playing host to the Lathrop Spartans on Sept. 23.

Garibay led the Hawks with 14 digs, two kills, one ace, one block and one assist.

Kassandra Torres had nine digs, two aces, one kill, one block and one assist.

Cornielle had eight assists, four digs and two aces.

Ceres High dropped to 2-10 overall and 0-4 in league after falling 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 27-25) at Beyer on Sept. 23.

The Bulldogs showed improvement during each set.

WATER POLO

Central Valley’s boys water polo team is no longer winless against WAC competition.

The Hawks broke into the victory column with an 18-10 triumph over the Johansen Vikings on Sept. 22 in Modesto.

“The team can get better,” Central Valley goalkeeper Sunny Breshears said. “But we have to want it.”

Ari Luman scored a game-high 16 goals for the Hawks (2-4).

Ezekiel Castorena had two goals.

The Hawks beat the host Lathrop Spartans on Sept. 24.

Central Valley’s girls team dropped to 1-4 in conference standings after losing by forfeit to Johansen due to a lack of numbers.

Ceres High’s boys team improved to 3-3 in the WAC.

The Bulldogs defeated the Grace Davis Spartans 14-4 on Sept. 22 in Ceres.

Jaxon Merrill scored a team-high seven goals.

Julian Hernandez had three goals.

Julian Tamayo had two goals.

Lorenzo Gradilla and Georg Homsi each had one goal.

Ceres High lost 18-7 at Beyer on Sept. 24.

Ceres High’s girls team dropped to 1-4 in WAC play.

The Bulldogs lost 14-7 to the Spartans.
