A funeral service was held Saturday at the Colonial Chapel of Franklin and Downs for Bobbie Nell McNeal, 80, of Ceres. She died Dec. 28, 2008 in Modesto after a short illness.

Born Oct. 27, 1928, Mrs. McNeal was born in Amarillo, Texas to Robert and Evie Wilson. Her family moved to Ceres in 1944 where she met and married Walter McNeal. In 1946 she graduated from Ceres High School and went on to earn her bachelor of science degree from Chapman University. Bobbie began her accounting career at the Ceres Dehydrator and worked for many years at Stanislaus State College when it was located at the Turlock County Fairgrounds. Mrs. McNeal retired from Castle Air Force Base after 22 years where she received many awards, among them the Air Force National Civillian Employee of the Year. After her retirement she worked as an AIP and substitute teacher for Ceres Unified School District.

Never tired of learning and experiencing new adventures, Bobbie was a member of many organizations and clubs including the Ceres Garden Club, Ceres Senior Citizens Club and the Ceres Red Hat Society. She belonged to the Episcopal Church.

Mrs. McNeal leaves behind her daughter, Patricia Arnold; her brother, Charlie Wilson; her granddaughter, Michelle Arnold-Brownlee; and two great-granddaughters, Kiera and Mia Brownlee. She was preceded in death by son Ronald Gene McNeal and her parents.
