Harlon Childres

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson for Harlon Daniel Childres, 81, of Ceres. He died Dec. 2, 2008 in Turlock.

Born June 15, 1927 to Wesley and Bulah Crosby Childres, Harlon was a native of Seminole, Okla. After he was discharge from the Army, at the end of World War II, Mr. Childres moved with his wife to the Modesto-Ceres area. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #3 for 45 years, working on the San Luis and Don Pedro dams, and the Melones Bridge. Mr. Childres was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Modesto chapter of the American Legion. He loved fishing and playing golf.

He leaves behind three sons, Dan Childres of Sonora, Mike Childres of Turlock and Doug Childres of Delhi; his brother, David Childres of Farmersville; four grandchildren, Kellie Palhegyi of Folsom, Bryan Childres, Amanda Sutton, and Christine Childres of Turlock; and six great-grandchildren. Harlon was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Nora Wyat) Childres in 2002.
