A busy week for CHS girls team

Ceres High’s varsity girls basketball team played five games in six days this past week.

“It was a long week, mentally and physically,” said coach Mike Estrada Jr. 

The Bulldogs posted a 1-2 record at the Lady Cougar Classic, which was staged Nov. 29-Dec. 1 at Golden Valley High School.

Ceres High closed out the tournament with a 64-27 win over Riverbank on Dec. 1.

Camryn Silva tallied a career-high 30 points.

She converted eight of nine free throws.

Silva also collected nine steals, eight rebounds and five assists.

Freshman Mia Rodriguez had 13 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Sophomore Catryna Marquez had eight points, three rebounds and three steals.

Freshman Celeste Leon had seven points, three rebounds, three steals and one assist.

Courtney Ford had four points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist.

Lauren Gonzalez had two points, three rebounds and one assist.

Ceres High missed 21 of 35 free throws during its 47-42 loss to host Golden Valley on Nov. 30.

Silva had 18 points, seven steals, five rebounds and two assists to lead the Bulldogs.

Marquez had 10 points, five steals and four rebounds.

Ford had eight points and nine rebounds.

Rodriguez had four points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Leon had two points, eight rebounds and one steal.

Ceres High dropped its tourney opener, 70-23, to River Valley on Nov. 29.

“Getting into foul trouble hurt us,” Estrada said. “We only have six players. We ran out of gas midway through the third quarter.”

Marquez had eight points, four rebounds and three steals.

Rodriguez had eight points, four rebounds and one steal.

Hampered by foul trouble, Silva mustered just three points. She logged less than 15 minutes of playing time.

“She’s our main scorer,” Estrada said.

Leon had two points, six rebounds and one steal.

Ford had two points and five rebounds.

Ceres High topped Golden Valley 42-37 in non-conference play on Nov. 27 in Merced.

Silva had 17 points, eight rebounds and five steals.

Marquez had 13 points, seven steals and five rebounds.

Rodriguez had six points, nine rebounds and three steals.

Leon had four points and three rebounds.

Ford had two points, four rebounds and two assists.

Ceres High routed Big Valley Christian 58-7 in preseason action on Nov. 26 in Modesto.

Marquez led the way with 17 points, 10 steals and one rebound.

Leon added 17 points, six steals and four rebounds.

Silva had 13 points, seven steals, three rebounds and one assist.

Rodriguez had nine points, eight steals, seven rebounds and five assists.

Ford had two points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Ceres High, which had a 3-3 overall record as of Sunday, will play at Sonora on Dec. 6. 

“I like where we’re at, at this point of the season,” Estrada said.
