• DRUGS NETTED IN PROBATION SEARCH: CERES - A Saturday probation search of a home of a Ceres man resulted in the discovery of drugs on two suspects.
Police showed up at 2516 Rose Avenue at 9:30 p.m. to perform a probation search and located 10 grams of heroin belonging to Anthony Cartwright, 40, of Ceres. He was arrested on charges of possession of heroin and violation of probation.
Also arrested was Robert Bughi, 23, of Ceres, for possession of methamphetamine and violation of probation.
• MAN ARRESTED FOR CHOKING WOMAN: CERES - Domestic violence charges have been filed against Pouaholong Lee, 28, of Ceres, for allegedly choking his female partner.
The domestic violence arrest occurred at 6:30 p.m. on Friday in the 2700 block of Roeding Road.
• WOMAN PUNCHED IN ARGUMENT: CERES - A fight between a man and woman in the 1600 of Joseph Lane escalated into an alleged attack on the woman on Friday evening.
Police were called at 9:11 p.m. after Jacob Pacheco, 28, of Ceres, and a woman began arguing when she didn't want Pacheco driving because he was intoxicated. In an effort to keep him from driving, the woman slashed the tires on his vehicle and he became angry and punched her in the face.
Ceres Police Lt. Brent Smith said Pacheco is wanted and should turn himself in.
• CARS STOLEN FROM MECHANIC SHOP: CERES - Two vehicles and an office computer were stolen from Hughes Car Care, 1662 Herndon Ave., during a Sunday morning commercial burglary.
An alarm went off at 5:45 a.m. Thieves had stolen an office computer as well as a 1984 Dodge Ram pickup and a 1982 canary yellow two-door Porsche hatchback. The Dodge was recovered on Monday but police are still searching for the Porsche, which sports a blower coming out of the hood.
• DRUG ARREST MADE: CERES - An early Sunday morning call from a Chevron store clerk about a man being in the bathroom too long ended in a drug possession arrest.
The night clerk at the Chevron station at Hatch Road and Herndon Avenue called police at 12:58 a.m. about the suspicious man. Police made contact with Edward Izzo, 28, of Ceres, who was arrested for possession of heroin.
• PASSED OUT DRIVER ARRESTED FOR DUI: CERES - Powell Kennedy, 23, of Ceres, was arrested Tuesday, Feb. 12 after he was roused from sleep while behind the wheel of a running vehicle.
Kennedy was found at 10:12 p.m. sitting slumped behind the wheel of the idling car in the 1900 block of Hackett Road. An officer parked the patrol car in front of the suspect's car in case he had it in gear with a foot on the brake. When he was roused, indeed his foot came off the brake and the car moved forward into the back of the patrol car. There was no significant damage.
Kennedy, who was deemed to be extremely intoxicated, was arrested for DUI.
• TRANSIENT ARRESTED FOR WARRANTS: CERES - A transient with connections to Patterson was arrested Tuesday, Feb. 12 after someone reported seeing him steal items from the AM/PM store at Hatch Road and Richland Avenue.
The citizen also reported seeing Joseph Ruiz, 32, intentionally scratching cars in the parking lot.
Officer Ross Bays responded to the 7 a.m. call and found Ruiz in front of the Food 4 Less store. When Bays called for Ruiz to stop, he was ignored and Bays had to grab the man and take him to the ground.
No stolen items were found on the man and no vandalized vehicles were located but Ruiz did have five warrants issued out of Sacramento County for theft. The warrants resulted in his arrest.
• CHOKING BOY SAVED: CERES - A choking five-year-old boy was spared his life by the fast response of Ceres Police Officer Ron Collins who was first on scene at a residence at 1527 Moffet Road last week.
The boy was unconscious when Collins arrived. He immediately began applying abdominal thrusts to dislodge a food item and was then transported to the hospital where he was later released.
"Ron pretty much saved him," said Lt. Brent Smith.
