WATERFORD – A 53-year-old Columbia man died in a solo motorcycle crash on Saturday afternoon on Highway 132 at Crabtree Road.

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office named Martin Pummill as the deceased.

The crash of Pummill on a 2023 Harley-Davidson was reported at approximately 2:25 p.m. The California Highway Patrol found the motorcycle overturned off the roadway.

A preliminary CHP investigation found that Pummill was eastbound on Yosemite Boulevard approaching Crabtree Road, at a speed too fast to safely negotiate the right-hand curve in the roadway. Pummill and his motorcycle left the roadway in a northeasterly direction, overturned, and collided with a metal fence. Pummill, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle and declared dead at the scene.

It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were contributing factors in the crash.

One-way traffic control was implemented at the scene, and the on-scene investigation lasted approximately two hours and 20 minutes.
