Ceres City Council candidate Gary M. Condit leads in fundraising in the race for the District 1 seat with challenger Dorie Perez trailing according to forms filed with the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC).
In the first pre-election filing period of July 27 through Sept. 19, Condit had received $13,963 in campaign contributions prior to Sept. 19. He also loaned his campaign $2,163.
By contrast challenger Dorie Perez collected $2,508 and spent $1,951.46. Her contributions included $150 from Joanne and Hassan Stick-Bayat of El Cerrito and $250 from Progressive Democrats of Modesto. Her expenditures were for the $1,400 filing fee, $268.10 for campaign literature and $210.67 on campaign signs.
Condit’s donors include: Jeffrey Lewis, the CEO of EMC Health Foundation, $250; Harinder Gill, $4,900; Stephen Lauritsen, $300; Phil de la Porte, $200; Lisa Mantarro Moore, $100; Charles Lyons, $500; Eric Ingwerson, $100; Tom Letras, $100; Nicholas Bavaro, $250; Nathan Crain of Hughson, $250; Jasbir Singh of San Ramon, $500; Lynett Henson, $250; The William H. Mattos Trust, $350; Burl Condit, $250; Juan Alanis of Assembly 2026, $1,000; and Youth Save Democracy Political Action Committee, $2,500.
Incumbent Councilman James Casey, who now occupies the District 1 seat and is not seeking re-election, is Condit’s campaign treasurer.
Both Condit and Perez serve on the Ceres Planning Commission.
In the District 2 race, incumbent Ceres City Councilwoman Rosalinda Vierra is being challenged by Jorge Guerrero and Galen Guzman. Vierra led in campaign contributions and expenditures as Guerrero and Guzman did not report any financial contributions or expenditures.
Vierra reported receiving $2,138 during the reporting period which is added to what she previously amassed for a total of $7,487. She reported spending $4,702.69.
Vierra’s donors were MCFFA Local 1289 of Modesto which gave her campaign $1,289; American Promotional Events West of Florence, Ala., $250; and Progressive Democrats of Modesto, $500.
Her expenditures reported were $160 to the Stanislaus County Register of Voters for a voter list; $530.37 for printing of campaign materials through online printer Bizay; $1,400 for a filing fee paid to the city of Ceres; $450 for video recording through Mak’s Vision Media of Modesto; $396 for printing through Campaign Catalyst of Saginaw, Mich.; and $600 for voter information through PDI of Norwalk.
Vierra was first elected to the Ceres City Council in 2022 when she defeated Paula Redfern with 1,158 votes (72.9 percent) to 429 votes (27.03 percent). She was unsuccessful in running against Mayor Javier Lopez in 2024, coming in third behind Gary Condit.
