The Ceres Library recently unveiled a new mural, donated by the Friends of the Ceres Library and completed by local artist Jonathan Vazquez. The mural is located on the east-facing exterior wall adjacent to the library’s parking lot and depicts an adult California bear reading to two cubs.

The addition of a mural was inspired by a desire to enhance the space and support a welcoming environment for both library regulars and new visitors. The mural’s reading theme highlights how books bring families together and is representative of Stanislaus County Library’s goal to support a vibrant reading community across all ages.

“Art and libraries both promote imagination, creativity and learning. Our hope is that the mural will draw more people to the library to take advantage of this valuable community resource,” stated Ceres Library supervisor Rebecca Brown.

The design and execution of the mural were donated to the community by the artist, Vazquez, who volunteered his talents to bring the mural to fruition. Funding for the project was provided by the Friends of the Ceres Library, who covered the cost of all supplies needed for the mural as well as the $180 permit fee required by the city of Ceres.
