Members of Richland Faith Assembly of God Church felt led to do something nice for Ceres families as they geared up for the new school year so they hosted the first annual Backpack Blessing event in which 410 backpacks were distributed free of charge.
The church handed out 205 backpacks on August 7 at the church site at 1201 Richland Avenue. The remaining 205 backpacks were donated to Ceres schools, including Hidahl Elementary School, Westport Elementary School, Walter White Elementary School, and Whitmore Charter School for distribution to students.
“Thanks to the generosity of our community partners, every backpack found a home,” said event organizer Kristen Corrales. “We are so grateful for everyone who donated, sponsored, volunteered, and helped make this event possible. Because of your support, we were able to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families in our community.”
Among the businesses which helped was La Morenita Restaurant. The church also had help from Central Valley Barber College, Hair Cuts USA, Adrian’s Beauty College and Paul Mitchell to give out haircut vouchers in each backpack.
