Teachers treated unfairly

Editor, Ceres Courier,

I'm a parent of a fourth-grader at Sam Vaughn School and have been very happy with the education my child has received. He loves his school and he loves his teachers. I have to say, I feel the same way. Teachers at Sam Vaughn School are caring, committed and nurturing. It's been a great experience all around.

Yet, it's disturbing to find that our teachers have been unable to get an increase in salary for six years. Meanwhile, I understand the superintendent receives $6,000 a year car allowance, and that is just one of many perks, while my child's teacher receives only $700 a year for supplies for 32 students. Even my fourth-grader would think that's not fair. Our students deserve better and so do our teachers.

I urge the School Board to see that Ceres teachers are paid the salary they deserve.
