The Ceres Earthquakes 16-and-under boys competitive soccer team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Cal North State Cup.

“It was a good learning experience,” head coach Alfredo Campos said. “Overall, we played well. We could have made it to semifinals. We fell short.”

Ceres collected no wins, two losses and one tie at the Cal North State Cup, which was staged April 18-19 at Granite Regional Park in Sacramento.

The Earthquakes and Fresno Brazil Elite battled to a 1-1 tie on April 19.

Ceres lost 1-0 to Tahuichi F.C. on April 18.

The Silicon Valley Eagles edged the Earthquakes 4-3 in a penalty kick-shootout on April 18.

The two teams tied 1-1 during regulation.

The Earthquakes amassed a 13-10-6 overall record this year.

“Even though we’re a small club, there’s no reason we can’t compete against bigger academies,” Campos said. “We don’t shy away from any competition. We practice very hard. We have big aspirations. The boys believe in each other.”

Ceres played in three different tournaments and two different leagues during the course of the 2025-26 season.

The Earthquakes reached the semifinals of Copa Rayados West, which was held June 12-15 in Nevada.

Ceres compiled a 3-1-1 record.

The Earthquakes lost 5-4 in a PK shootout to eventual-champion Missoula Surf on June 14.

Neither team scored in regulation.

Ceres shut out Missoula Surf 2-0 and Rayados Las Vegas Soccer Academy 4-0 on June 13.

The Earthquakes defeated Central Coast Surf 1-0 and tied DCSC Hesperia Magana 1-1 on June 12.

Ceres accumulated three wins, five losses and one draw en route to a fifth-place finish in NorCal Premier Spring League play.

The Earthquakes placed third in the NorCal Premier Fall League with a 6-1-2 mark.

Ceres posted a 1-1-1 record at the NorCal State Cup round-robin tournament.

Th Earthquakes and Ajax United Green NPL tied 1-1 in Platinum bracket play on Oct. 11 at Mary Grogan Community Park in Modesto.

Visiting Ceres topped Turlock Sports Park F.C. 1-0 on Sept. 27.

The Earthquakes lost 2-0 to Athletico ECNL on Sept. 13 at the Turlock Sports Park.

“We’re not winning every game,” Campos said. “But we’re competing. We learn more from every loss.”

Coach Campos carried 21 players on his roster this year, including Izrael Alvarez, Roman Artiga, Julian Campos, Jonathan Ceja Piceno, Cristian Espinoza Calderon, Anthony Samuel Garcia Cruz, Juan Gudino, Damian Hernandez, Jose Ibarra, Angel Leon, Wilbert Matute, Alonzo Ontiveros, Charles Osborn, Andres Rebolledo, Adriel Rodriguez, Jose Tapia Arallano, Yahir Torrano Orozco, Sergio Valenzuela Cabello, Raul Gabriel Vega, Daniel Yepez Ontiveros and Jaiden Young.

The Earthquakes have one assistant coach (Ruben Alvarez and one team manager (Irma Campos).

“It was a learning year,” Alfredo Campos said. “These boys played against high-level competition. It wasn’t easy. We wanted to expose them to college-level scouts and prepare them for the future.”
