Jeffrey Shumaker, 48, of Ceres, will be answering to a felony charge after being arrested for pointing a green laser at the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department helicopter on Saturday evening.

At 11:51 p.m. Ceres Police officers were notified that Air 111 was repeatedly hit by a green laser as it flew over Ceres. The air crew was able to pinpoint the location of the subject pointing the laser. They provided an address in the 2300 block of Beachwood Drive.

Officers searched on foot and found Shumaker standing in the doorway of the identified residence. Shumaker admitted pointing the laser at the helicopter and police recovered the laser pointer.

He was arrested for discharging a laser at an occupied aircraft, which is a felony.
