Ceres man charged in Bay Area hit-and-run

FREMONT – A Ceres man has been charged with felony vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run relating to an Aug. 28 death of a bicyclist in Fremont.

Killed in the crash was Kiranjot Deol, a 28-year-old Fremont bicyclist who was riding to his software engineer job at Facebook in Menlo Park. The crash occurred before 5 a.m. on Boyce Road between Auto Mall Parkway and Stewart Avenue in Fremont. The driver who hit Deol fled the scene, but later returned and called 911.

Fremont Police Department announced Saturday that charges have been filed against Rosendo Cruz Vargas, 25, of Ceres following a lengthy investigation. Vargas surrendered to investigators on Dec. 12 and has since been released pending future court proceedings.
