Ceres Police seek witnesses in a shooting

Ceres Police detectives are hoping a witness comes forward to lead them to the man who critically wounded a 34-year-old man in a Tuesday evening shooting.

The shooting occurred at Evans Road and Brookings Court at 8:46 p.m.

Police said the victim was driving his vehicle westbound on Evans Road as he was following friends in another vehicle to the store. The first vehicle came to an abrupt stop to avoid hitting a dog in the roadway at Evans Road and Brookings Court. The victim stopped and got out of his vehicle to check on the welfare of his friends.

The suspect rolled up to the scene, driving past the stopped cars. The victim was seen raising his hands to his shoulder height with his palms up. The assailant made a U-turn and returned back by. The victim and the assailant exchanged words. The assailant fired a round striking the victim on the face. The assailant fled eastbound on Evans Road.

Police said the gunman was assailant is African American and that the vehicle was a dark-colored sedan.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
