A 30-year-old Ceres man was arrested after he allegedly threw rocks or chunks of concrete at multiple passing cars Saturday morning near the Valley First Credit Union at 1501 Mitchell Road.

Multiple persons called 911 to report the crime in progress. At 8:51 a.m., Officer Jeffery Godfrey and Officer Brian Chandler were dispatched to the scene and during their search dispatchers began receiving 911 calls about a man now throwing cement blocks in the roadway in the 1700 block of Mitchell Road.

Officer Chandler spotted Salvador Espinosa, Jr., carrying a large rock while walking in the roadway. He dropped the piece and began walking away shortly after Officer Chandler arrived. Officer Chandler told Salvador he was under arrest and attempted to place Espinosa in handcuffs, but he began to resist. Officer Godfrey arrived quickly during the arrest process and after a short struggle, Espinosa was handcuffed. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of throwing a substance at vehicles and obstructing a police officer.
