Report of fight ends in DUI arrest
Ceres Cop Car

An early Saturday morning report of two males in a gray van possibly trying to assault a third male with a stick at the Cruisers Gas Station, 2954 E. Whitmore Avenue, ended with the driver being booked for misdemeanor DUI and driving on a suspended license.

The 9-1-1 call came in at 1:44 a.m. and officers responded but did not locate the van. Officer Ross Bays continued to check for the van while Officer Miguel Villalobos radioed that the van left Family Pizza Bar across the street and was heading northbound on Louise Avenue from Whitmore Avenue. Bays caught up to the white Dodge Caravan as it turned onto Joy Avenue. Officer Bays observed the van's registration was expired and initiated a traffic stop as it pulled to the south curb of Joy Avenue.

Driver Gilverto Chavollacorona, 21, of Hughson, appeared to be intoxicated and several open containers were in the car. Chavollacorona said he had been drinking but he could remember how much or when.

After failing a field sobriety Chavollacorona was arrested for driving under the influence. Chavollacorona provided a preliminary breath sample with the results being a .20 percent blood alcohol content, nearly three times the legal limit. Chavollacorona admitted knowing that his license had been suspended.

Several passengers had been drinking but were released because they were able to care for themselves.
