Police believe that Arturo Franco, 27, of Ceres, tried so hard to avoid going to jail that he took drastic measures - including running into a barbed-wire fence - to escape. He went to jail anyway.

Officers spotted Franco putting gas into his car at 1:39 a.m. on Sunday morning in front of 2320 Central Avenue and one recognized him. Franco had two misdemeanor warrants issued by Turlock Police Department. At first Franco lied about his name but when his real name was called, Franco bolted on foot northbound on Central Avenue. He was found in the 2000 block of Hollister Street and arrested after a struggle and booked for the warrants and resisting arrest. Police say Franco's head and face were cut when he jumped over a barbed-wire fence.
