Desmond Burkhalter, 65, of Ceres, was cited for shoplifting on Jan. 5 after allegedly concealing two hats and walking out of the Ceres Walmart store while wearing a pair of shoes he didn't pay for either.

The store's loss prevention team watched Burkhalter conceal the items and put on a new pair of shoes and tried walking out without paying for them, said Ceres Police Department spokesman Lt. James Yandell. They called police at 4:05 p.m. to cite and release him.
