Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputies broke off a standoff at a home in the 6400 block of Crows Landing Road Tuesday, Nov. 8 in the interest of public safety but are looking to arrest Faustino Vera, 23.

Deputies surrounded a house after a woman living at the home called at 1:45 p.m. to report that her son showed up in a stolen vehicle. The suspect refused to come out after deputies spoke to Vera by phone. After a two-hour standoff in which the road was closed, deputies called it off and left. They later returned and found Vera was gone. The stolen vehicle was recovered and returned to its owner in Merced.
