Responding to reports of a Sunday afternoon grass fire that had been set by an arsonist in the 1300 block of Hatch Road, Ceres Police thought they had their suspect. Jason Lopez, 32, matched the description given to police but upon further investigation they learned he didn’t set the fire but was carrying around suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Officer Jose Andrade made contact with Lopez at 2:06 p.m. and issued him a citation and a date to appear in court. However, an investigation related to the fire was conducted and Lopez was found not to be involved in starting the fire.
