Christopher Favila, 20, of Turlock, was arrested Sept. 27 in Ceres for possession of a loaded firearm after he was seen brandishing a weapon moments earlier in Turlock.
According to Ceres Police Department spokesman Lt. James Yandell, local police agencies were told to look out for a silver Honda Civic with an occupant who had brandished a firearm at a passing vehicle in Turlock. The victim followed the Honda to Ceres where at 1:12 p.m. Officer Jesus Salinas spotted it and initiated a high-risk vehicle stop at Oasis Avenue and Tenth Street. After all the occupants were removed, a search of the vehicle turned up an altered .22-caliber rifle with a shaved stock and extremely shortened barrel. The modified gun was found to have a round in the chamber. Passenger Favila was arrested and booked for possession of a short barrel rifle, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle.
A brandishing charge was not applied because the victim refused to identify the suspect.
