Two face charges after car stop

A Ceres man and woman were booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on different charges after the driver was pulled over for code violations on the evening of Sept. 5.

At 11:59 p.m.Ceres Police Sergeant Keith Griebel stopped a white Chevy Cavalier for vehicle code violations on Whitmore Avenue east of Crowslanding Road. The driver, Roxanne Bargas, 46, of Ceres, did not have a license to drive and she was also on probation. Her passenger, Alejandro Palacios, 36, of Ceres, was on active PRCS, prompting Griebel to ask him to step out of the vehicle. When he did he reached into his pants pocket and pulled out two small baggies. One contained suspected marijuana and the other contained suspected methamphetamine. Palacios handed both baggies to officers. Palacios was placed under arrest.

When Bargas was asked to step out of the vehicle she reached into her front sweatshirt pocket and produced an expandable baton. Bargas stated she had the weapon for protection. Bargas was placed under arrest.
Officers conducted a vehicle search and found a glass smoking pipe near where Palacios was seated.

Palacios was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation.

Bargas was arrested for possession of a concealed weapon, probation violation and driving without a license.
