Two stores see shoplifter arrests the same day

The Kmart and Walmart stores in Ceres saw shoplifting cases on Tuesday, March 1 with both suspects being cited and released.

The first case occurred at Kmart. The store's loss prevention officer called police at 5:10 p.m. with a shoplifter in custody. The store employee said they saw Christopher Stevens, 22, of Modesto, placed electronic products in his sweatshirt and walk out of the store without buying them. He was stopped outside the store and found with $56.97 worth of goods. He was cited for shoplifting and probation violation and released.

Less than an hour later, at 5:52 p.m. Officer Justin Canatsy was sent to Walmart for a female shoplifter in custody. Walmart's loss prevention officer saw Neoma Simas, 46, of Ceres, place $21.24 worth of makeup items in her purse and then paid for other items at the register. She walked out of the store where she was stopped.

Simas was cited for shoplifting and released.
