Two persons were shot at Persephone Park Monday evening, with one in critical but stable condition.

The shooting at the Lunar Drive park in east Ceres was reported at 6:15 p.m. Ceres Police officers could find no victims but they saw a parked vehicle with a bullet hole and several shell casings on the ground. While officers were processing the crime scene, a local hospital reported two gunshot wound victims were driven to the emergency room. Officers confirmed that the two were involved in Ceres shooting.

A 32-year-old man underwent surgery and was listed Tuesday morning in critical but stable condition. An 18-year-old woman was treated for a gunshot injury and released. A 17-year-old girl with them escaped injury, said Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Greg Yotsuya.

Investigators say the three victims were sitting in their vehicle near the park when two black males, one in his early 20’s and the other in his teens, walked up to the vehicle. Words were exchanged and shots were fired at the victims. The two suspects fled on foot westbound through the park.

“Investigators do not believe this to be a random act and are following up on several leads,” said Yotsuya.

Anyone with information related to this shooting is asked to call Detective Brian Ferreira at 538-5616.
