The incident began at 9:50 p.m., when officers were called to check reports of a man trying to remove tires from a vehicle at West Coast Door & Gate located at 2025 Rockefeller Drive.

The business owner advised police that no one had permission to be on his property.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Air Unit was called and tracked suspect Saul Zepeda who attempted to flee the scene in a silver-colored Toyota Corolla. Officer Charles Lord-Huff caught up to the vehicle and attempted to stop Zepeda however he accelerated away and a pursuit was initiated. The chased lasted only a minute when Zepeda crashed into a curb in the area of Parklawn Avenue and Church Street, at which point he ran from his disabled car.

After a short foot chase, officers arrested Zepeda. A search of him turned up drug paraphernalia, brass knuckles and a suspected methamphetamine.

His vehicle yielded three tires stolen at the business.

Zepeda was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of evading police, possession of the brass knuckles, controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, petty theft, resisting arrest, a felony probation violation and the felony warrant.
