Man jailed after suspected of smoking fentanyl

A 37-year-old Modesto man who was seen smoking what possibly was fentanyl in a car on Thursday evening.

Police were notified at approximately 7:24 p.m. about a man passed out in a green-colored Honda CRV in the 3000 block of Service Road.

Officer Kyle Hatcher approached the Honda and saw Manuel Gonzales smoking suspected narcotics believed to be fentanyl. Officer Hatcher arrested Gonzales for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. During a search of the car, the officer found a small plastic baggy containing a white power substance believed to be fentanyl.

A records check indicated that Gonzales had two or more prior convictions of possession of a controlled substance, adding an additional charge. Gonzales was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
