A Southern California teenager was arrested early Saturday as he was filling up a stolen gray Kia Forte at the gas pumps at the Chevron in the 1500 block of Herndon Road.

Officer Eric Souza passed by the gas station at 2:41 a.m. and spotted a Kia with its passenger side window shattered and covered by a piece of clothing. Driver Asael Lopez, 19, of Inglewood, got out of the driver seat to pump gas as Officer Souza ran a registration check of the vehicle. He learned the car was reported stolen. 

Lopez was arrested for auto theft and possession of stolen property. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
