Teen arrested after crash in police pursuit
Ceres Cop Car

A 17-year-old Modesto boy was arrested Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 14 after he ran from an officer attempting to cite him for speeding but crashed his car in a residential area.

At approximately 3 p.m., motorcycle patrol Officer Freddie Ortiz was finishing up a traffic stop when a 2009 Hyundai Genesis sped by him at a high rate of speed while passing other vehicles. Ortiz estimated the driver was going 60 mph in a 35 mph zone. He jumped on his motorcycle to catch up with the driver, who only accelerated in an attempt to get away.

The chase went down Weathervane Lane and when the teen driver turned onto Southlawn Way he lost control and crashed into a tree. The driver was not injured and was booked into Juvenile Hall for evading a peace officer and driving without a license.
